IACI is tracking a several issues under the broad category of health care.  Maintaining high quality reasonably priced care with open access is important to the economic success of Idaho.  Our members include employers that provide benefits, consumers, health care providers and benefit providers.  It is an area with no easy answers, however, both the Governor and the Idaho Legislature are not shying away from tackling some of the problems in the health care system.  The Governor has appointed a Select Committee that is producing a report due to be out later this year.  Also, the Idaho Legislature has an interim Task Force that is meeting regularly to explore possible system improvements.

One issue that is currently developing is regarding discretionary clauses in insurance contracts.  The Department of Insurance (DOI) has proposed a rule to eliminate the use of such clauses.   This raised objections from IACI.  The subsequent discussions with officials from DOI has yielded a compromise to include drafting legislation to allow for the creation of a third party review system already used in 42 other states.  IACI's letter and the formal response from the DOI are listed below.
